give away a defibrillator
A Sheffield church has donated a defibrillator to South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.
The Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, which has Gospel Halls on Carterknowle Road, Carterknowle and Station Drive, Millhouses, handed over the device - which can re-start hearts after a cardiac arrest - at the fire service’s headquarters.
The defibrillator will be kept in the reception area of the fire service headquarters, Handsworth, in case of a medical emergency.
Church members have assisted the fire service at a number of major incidents, including offering firefighters refreshments during a huge blaze at a recycling factory in Attercliffe in July last year which took days to deal with.
Assistant Chief Fire Officer John Roberts said: “Every second counts when someone has suffered a cardiac arrest, the sooner they can receive emergency care the better their recovery chances are.”
David Smith, from the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church congregation, said: “We have always been committed to making a positive contribution to the communities that we live in, and donating an essential piece of life saving equipment is something we are very pleased to be able to do.”
